After sitting dormant for more than 20 years, The Majestic Theatre in downtown Kankakee is being restored to its former glory. By the end of the year, visitors will be able to enjoy a multi-purpose facility capable of accommodating up to 500 guests. The theatre features a full stage, 20-foot screen, second & third floor balconies, WIFI, a state-of-the-art sound system and 2 dressing rooms. It's a perfect venue for wedding ceremonies, receptions, concerts, plays, fashion shows, business seminars, recitals, pageants and proms. Full catering and a bar are also available. It was built in 1912 by twice-widowed Julia Remington at a cost of $80,000. It burned down just 5 months after it opened, but was immediately rebuilt. The theatre hosted just famous performers as Marx Brothers and Sandra Bernhardt.
